NEW CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
"Thank You and Action Items"
(September 16, 2006)

Dear AFRICOM members and friends:

I hope and pray that you and your families are doing well and that your businesses are thriving and successful. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for electing me as the Chair of AFRICOM during the elections of August 27, 2006. I am humbled and very appreciative of the support and encouragement from many members.

I want to specifically thank all members of the Elections Committees (2005, 2006-1st, and 2006-2nd committees), and other members who participated in the discussions of election issues at many Council meetings. I believe God has and will reward all your efforts for AFRICOM. We will always need your support to make AFRICOM work for all Africans.

According to the Bylaws, one of the first tasks of the newly elected Chair is the appointment of the Comptroller. OLD EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OFFICERS
On behalf of AFRICOM members, I want to thank the officers of the previous Executive Council, consisting of Dr. Jude Iheoma (Chair), Ibrahim Diarra (Vice Chair), Dr. Bernadine Ahonkhai (Secretary), and Filmon Mebhratu (Comptroller). They took an infant and unknown AFRICOM and make it grow into adulthood with magnificent recognition in the City of Philadelphia and beyond. We all appreciate your efforts and sacrifices for the good of all Africans. Please do not walk away because we will always need your support to make AFRICOM continue to work for all Africans. Thank you.

HANDING-OVER
The new Executive Council officers need to start on a good footing with all the resources necessary for it to function properly. Therefore, I am requesting all previous Executive Council officers to hand-over all documents, assets and liabilities of AFRICOM. Please send these items to the Secretary, Vincent N’gadi, through one of the two addresses indicated above or you may bring these items to the next AFRICOM meeting. For record purposes, please provide a list of items that you are handing-over to the new Executive Council officers. According to Article X of our Bylaws, AFRICOM “shall maintain adequate and correct books, records and accounts of its business and properties….. All of these books, records and accounts shall be kept at its principal office.” Any other member who is in possession of an item or items belonging to AFRICOM should please follow the same procedure. Thank you and God bless you as you hand-over AFRICOM materials and items.

MEMBERSHIP DUES
It is a fact that no organization can function well without finances. I believe no organization paid its membership dues to AFRICOM during the 2005-2006 fiscal year. Therefore, AFRICOM does not have money. I hereby request all organizations and associate members to sent their annual dues for 2006-2007 fiscal year through the addresses given above or latest bring it to the next meeting. Only paid members will be recognized after December 31, 2006.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
As decided at a previous meeting, the election of members of the Board of Directors shall be held in November 2006. Only paid members will be eligible to nominate, to be nominated and to vote in this election. Therefore, it is important that you pay your membership dues before then.

STANDING COMMITTEES
The Bylaws stipulate that there shall be seven standing committees including the Elections Committee. If you served or are serving on any of these committees, except the Election Committee, please send me information specifying which committee and the status of such committee.

NEXT MEETING
The next General Meeting of AFRICOM is scheduled for Saturday, October 7, 2006, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, at the Community Development Corporation (CDC), 4027 Market Street , Philadelphia . Please plan to attend. The Secretary, Vincent N’gadi, will send out a meeting notice with an agenda and minutes of the previous meeting soon.

CONCLUSION
Finally, I request your full support to the new Executive Council so that together we can make a strong progress in AFRICOM; we can stand tall and be recognized for the strength and capability that we possess as a united organization; and we can obtain the resources deserving to us for the good and welfare of our people. Please take action(s) indicated above as applicable to you or your member-organization.

Thank you again and God bless,

Philip Udo-Inyang
Chair, AFRICOM
